The last 6 months of my life was all about one thing – organising a motoring event unlike any other seen in Poland up to date. Having spent three years on building the raceism.com community and promoting „stance”, I decided to prepare a meeting that would be noticed also outside Poland. Last year’s event made me sure that Wrocław was the perfect place to host a meeting that would bring together all parts and corners of the continental Europe. Inspired by the movement visible in the USA, where such events are much more frequent, I set my mind on creating something that would reflect the scale and level of the European scene.
I believe that the biggest advantage of the event was a unique atmosphere we managed to build by combining two seemingly incompatible worlds – the four elements of hip-hop, and the top stance projects of our region. We knew that when visiting a typical gathering of motoring enthusiasts, you will probably hear techno music rather than a raw hip-hop beat. We saw this as an opportunity to make our idea stand out – this is why we asked (yet again) graffiti writers, bboys, djs and rappers to join the tuning community in creating the show.
One important novelty this year were the rules of choosing the best projects, as well as the composition of the judges’ panel. We invited seven judges from various countries, reaching as far as Washington DC and Moscow. We then set up a discussion panel to allow them to get in touch with the spectators. The idea behind this was to make the spectators more familiar both with the judges themselves and the scenes in their respective countries. Ultimately, the people responsible for selecting the TOP 14 were: Rodolfo Lamestra [Dapper, US], Mario Mattick [Lowfamilia, DE], Matt Carter [Lownatics, DE], Peter Gavrilin [Rub’n’roll, RUS], Buni Seferi [Dapper, CH], Jonas Michalski [Raceism Scandinavia, SE] and me. The whole group did a great job during the discussion panel, providing lengthy, in-depth answers to Adam Tokarski [Santino, Raceism], who moderated the discussion. The only less-than-perfect aspect of that part of the day was poor weather. Perhaps, we would have also wanted to see a bit more involvement from the audience – something to work on in the future. Each judge chose two cars that, in his opinion, were most worthy to meet in the TOP 14. The chosen vehicles competed for the winner’s trophy in a knock-out system, taken straight from the bboying battles. Despite a few controversies that surfaced in the process, the formula proved quite spectacular and kept us well entertained throughout the day.
A demo version (approximately 20 cars) of a TIMEATTACK competition was an element never before seen during Polish stance events. It proved hugely popular among spectators gathered around the esplanade. A straight-line, perfectly smooth track, equipped with professional time-measuring devices, constituted a venue good enough even for the lowest-suspended cars such as Archer’s Del Sol. Jacek, driving a black EVO X, emerged the winner of the competition, having matched some spectacular driving from Musk in his supercharged MBW E46 M3. All in all, TIMEATTACK is an event we intend to develop a lot in the future, since it proves way more entertaining than static shows.
Right after completing the first part, we moved on to „YOU CAN STANCE” – a competition in which cars were judged based on the lowest point on the suspension or bodywork [LOWEST], the distance between outer rants on the rear axle [WIDEST] and the highest construction element [SLAMMED]. Two awards went to Archer, while the „widest” award went to MarcoVIP from Raceism United and his Lexus IS220. Hit of this edition was the dj’s team FUNKY MASONS, I can not count the number of questions for track names that was served by Dejot and Jazzera – respect!
Subsequent hours were animated by bboys and bgirls’ battles. The list of crews included Polskee Flavour, Funky Masons, Kingz of Warsaw, Cats Claw, Raw Bgirls, and many more. The winners’ trophy for the 1vs1 competition went to the good old stager, Skunk [Kingz of Warsaw]. The whole thing turned out interesting enough to gather quite a crowd of spectators, who weren’t shying away from interacting with the participants. We finished bboys battles and without any brake invote 7th judges on the main stage to chose top 7 projects for another day. Was not without a few unexpected twists such as the elimination of the Audi R8 from the team FLGNTLT by our representative – Musk in BMW 7er on Airride and phenomenal custom wheels. Drivers of 8-14 received our traditional awards in the form of license plates and souvenirs, a leading TOP7 could get ready to compete in the quarter-finals [as given to us football world championship climate]. The first day was almost behind us, only thing left was to take advantage of a pause to rest, and after support artists finish their show, to gather under the stage in anticipation of the concert of the New York rap legend blastmaster KRS ONE! In cooperation with Acapulco.pl we managed to organize a concert with a rapper on automotive event, a thing without precedence and we are very proud of.
Sunday greeted us with a surprisingly nicer weather than the previous day, in spite of all predictions and fortunately, we were able to relax on sun beds located under the stage during the presentation of the top 7 cars event. Presentations was carried out by Bielin from Volxzone crew and as always he kept the level and proved his professionalism and the skill in this matter. In parallel, during the event, we have seen drifting RC guys from the team ILLEGAL-D. Graffiti show was done in a automotive representatives of the teams WR [Speis, Exer] UNICATS [Tempz, gnawing], HXM [Nesh] VHS [Rater (Subaru driver on timeattack J)]. Paint for this cool project was funded by a well know company from Warsa galeriakoloru.pl
Because a large number of visitors had way back home thousands of kilometers we had to rush out of the deal awards for leading 7th. The verdict of the judges winner of the event was the BMW E91 with visual conversion for BMW E92 M3 built by bs-carstyling.ch, and which is owned by Buni Seferi . The unanimous victory for this kind of event is a success that may never come again, and proof of how amazing the effect the Swiss managed to achieve. Sequentially awards won:
